Other Turbines Training

DWPA provide specialized training solutions for a wide variety of other turbine brands and models, supporting your technicians, maintenance staff, troubleshooting engineers, and leadership teams to maintain safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations.

Why Wind Turbine Training matters

Not all wind farms are built around major OEM fleets – many sites operate mixed fleets or less common turbine types, often with unique control systems, retrofits, or custom modifications.

Many wind farms rely on older or non-mainstream turbine types that are no longer in production or have passed through multiple ownerships and retrofits. These assets often:

  • Lack consistent documentation or OEM support,
  • Use legacy control systems (e.g., PLC-based, custom SCADA),
  • Have undergone aftermarket modifications or hybridization,
  • Require tailored training to bridge gaps between standard procedures and real-world turbine behavior.

“When the manual doesn’t match the machine anymore, your technicians’ knowledge is your greatest asset.”

Our Wind Turbines Training is designed to fill these knowledge gaps through flexible, modular, and fleet-specific programs.

Supported and Custom Turbine Types

We support training for a wide range of less common or legacy turbine brands, such as (examples):

  • Micon / Wind World / MADE / Lagerwey / AN Bonus (early)
  • Enercon (selected subsystems)
  • Ecotecnia/Alstom, Vensys, Nordtank, Tacke, DeWind, or similar niche OEMs
  • Retrofit or hybrid turbines with mixed control architectures
  • Prototype, pre-series, or locally manufactured units

We also support site-specific hybrid setups, where multiple turbine generations coexist within the same farm.

If your turbine type is not listed, we can analyze documentation and systems in advance to build a customized training module for your fleet.

Delivery, Certification, and Flexibility

Hands-on training in real turbines or representative mockups for maximum retention.

Flexible module structure – ideal for mixed fleets, legacy machines, or special control configurations.

Certification and assessment integrated into every module to ensure competence.

Blended delivery – on-site, virtual, hybrid, or in training facilities.

Refresher and follow-up training to support long-term operation of unique turbine types.

Training Programs for Other Turbines

We take a 360° approach to operational training and have designed a range of programs to support the development of wind turbine technicians as well as off-site supporting resources and operational leadership teams to support a holistic understanding of the issues which drive operational performance.

What: Our assessment tool gives an advantage in understanding the level of the participants. This ensures that participants are attending classes and training sessions that are appropriate for their skill level, avoiding wasted time in sessions that may not be beneficial to them. And allows for more effective scheduling of daily operations.

The Assessment will clarify your current knowledge and competency gap and enable you to make informed choices when deciding what training will be needed.

Read more about Competency Assessment

What: This class is designed to provide you with critical  knowledge of generic wind turbine systems and sub-systems to component level, including an introduction to technical documentation such as electrical schematic diagrams and hydraulic diagrams. It is delivered over 5 days with both individual and group interactive exercises with a formal assessment at the end of the class.

Who should attend: Any who have  requirements to understand the technical aspects of wind turbine technology

Delivery Options: This class can be delivered either in-person or via the distance learning online method.

Read more about Advanced Component Theory

What: Technical Sprints are designed to enhance your theoretical knowledge within one of the following topics: Controls, Hydraulics, Mechanicals, Gearbox and Electrics.

Who should attend: Technical sprints have been developed following our assessment, where we test in five different subjects: Controls, Electrics, Gearbox, Hydraulics, and Mechanicals. Suppose the assessment indicates a lack of knowledge in one or more of these subjects but high scores in others. In that case, we suggest our technical sprints instead of undergoing an entire Advanced Component Theory Training.

Delivery Options: This class is delivered via the distance learning online method.

Read more about Technical Sprints

What: This is an advanced wind turbine type-specific theory class designed to provide a deep awareness of all turbine systems and sub-systems and provides a solid foundation to support core maintenance activities and the development towards advanced troubleshooting technician status. The class is an intensive theory based class delivered over 5 days with many individual and group exercises built in to ensure that participants emerge with a deep understanding of the technology and associated systems that they are required to support.
Actual performance and fault data is used to provide real life examples and each class is tailored to participant group and any specific aspects associated with their company to enhance the learning experience.

I enjoyed going over schematics, and organizing documents to help with troubleshooting Trainer is very knowledgeable in every aspect, if we have a question he is able to answer it. I know it’s not normal I don’t believe for the instructor to climb a tower with you but I believe this was an amazing experience, so just happens we had a difficult fault to troubleshoot. I learned a lot from this.

Training by job role

We have carefully created our Vestas training programs to support various roles associated with the operation and maintenance of wind turbines, beyond those designed specifically for field-based technicians.

Wind Turbine Technicians

We have programs to support the technical competency development of technicians from those new to industry through to experienced troubleshoot technicians with many years of operational experience

Off-site Support Resources

We have used our extensive operation and maintenance related ‘core knowledge’ to develop programs to support off-site technical resources and ensure that they have a sufficient understanding and awareness of operational wind turbines to fully to enable them to support field-based teams. These programmes have been designed to capture management and supervisory resources

Remote Operations staff

Remote operations are an essential part of achieving optimal performance from wind turbine assets and we have developed specific programs to ensure that the operational awareness of staff involved with remote operations is sufficient to support safe and efficient operations
